If 3 is subtracted from twice a number, the result is 8 less than the number.

    The equation is 2x-3=x-8

    simplify that by adding 3 to both sides

    2x+5=x

    then, subtract 2x on both sides and you get

    -x=5, multiply both sides by - 1 and your final answer is

    x=-5
