What would a model be for the math word problem Sammy has 50 pieces of gum. He wants to give 1/2 of the pieces to his brother and 3/4 of the pieces to his sister.

    Answer: X = 1/2 (y)

    Z = 3/4 (x)

    But x = 1/2 (y)

    So z = 3/4 * 1/2 (y)

    Z = 3/8 (y)

    Total = 1/2 (y) + 3/8 (y) + 1/8 (y)
