Two sailboats had a race. Sailboat A traveled 40 feet every 5 seconds, and sailboat B traveled 56 feet every 8 seconds. Which sailboat won the race, and how fast was it going?

    Speed is distance divided by time. So boat A is going 40/5 feet per second, and boat B is going 56/8 feet per second. The greater the quotient, the faster the boat.
