A submarine descended 1200 meters below the surface of the water. It then rose 800 meters and then descended 250 meters.

What was the submarine's net gain or loss in altitude? {Note: m stands for Meters}

B. - 650 m

    Descending = (-1200)

    Ascending = - 1200 + 800 = (-400)

    Again, descending = - 400 - 250 = (-650)

    So, its 650 m below sea level.
