Describe and correct the error in solving the equation - 1.5+k=8.2

k=8.2 + (-1.5)

k=6.7

    -1.5 + k is the same thing as k - 1.5

    and if we want to get k all by itself, we need to add 1.5 on both sides, not add - 1.5

    so

    -1.5 + k = 8.2

    -1.5 + 1.5 + k = 8.2 + 1.5

    k = 8.2 + 1.5

    k = 9.7
