    In the neighborhood the field is 100 yards long, end they run 4 laps, then they run 100 yards (i will assume that each side) 4 times, this is:

    D1 = 4*4*100 yards = 1600 yards.

    in the field of uncle Jack, the field is 30 yards by 55 yards, then this field has two sides of 30 yards and two sides of 55yards, then the total length of the field is: L = (2*30 + 2 * 55) yards.

    And they ran 8 laps around this field, so we have:

    D2 = 8 * (170) yards = 1360 yards

    They run more in their neighborhood, and the difference is:

    D1 - D2 = 1600 yards - 1360 yards = 240 yards
