    Number 30 previous to current = 19683 / 3 = 6561

    1 hour previous = 6561 / 3 = 2187

    1.5 hours previous = 729

    2 hours previous = 243

    2 hours = 4 periods of 30 minutes

    19683/3=6561

    6561/3=2187

    2187/3=729

    729/3=243

    Or alternatively:

    you can divide by 81:

    19683/81=243

    There were 243 fruit flies
