To write this in scientific notation, move the decimal place at the end of this number 11 spaces to the left so that you're left with a number in between 1 and 10: 2.3 (you don't need to write the zeros as they are now irrelevant.
Because you moved 11 spaces to the left, you write 10^11.
Putting these two together, you get 2.3 x 10^11
