    The solution to the problem is shown below:

    Perimeter = 40 yards

    Wide = W = ?

    Length = W + 1.5 yards

    The formula for the perimeter of a rectangular playground:

    P=2 (L+W) where "L" is for the length and "W" is for the Width

    40 = 2 ((W+1.5) + W)

    40 = 2 (2W+1.5)

    40/2=2W + 1.5

    20 - 1.5 = 2W

    W=9.25

    L=9.25 + 1.5 = 10.75

    Area is L x W

    Area = 9.25 x 10.75

    Area = 102.125 squard unit
