    Let s be the number of sports issues, and let f be the number of fashion issues, then

    s + f = 24 (this represents the total number of magazines)

    and

    f = 2s - 6 (number of fashion issues is 6 less that twice the number of

    sports issues)

    Step-by-step explanation:

    You want to assign a variable for each piece of the problem, here you need a variable for the number of sports magazines and one for the number of fashion magazines.

    Then you set up a system of equations based on the given information.

    There are 24 total magazines, so the number of sports magazines, and the number of fashions magazines adds up to 24, or

    sports + fashion = 24

    The number of fashion magazines is 6 less than twice as many sports magazines, so

    f = 2s - 6
