Larry spend $5 more than Amanda at the candy store. Together they spend a total of $18. How how did Larry spend?

    Let Amanda spend x.

    Larry spend $5 more than Amanda, = (x+5).

    Total = $ 18.

    Therefore = x + (x+5) = 18

    = 2x + 5 = 18

    2x = 18-5

    2x = 13. Divide both sides by 2.

    x = 13/2 = 6.5

    Recall: Larry = (x+5) = (6.5 + 5) = 11.5

    Larry = $11.50.

    That's the amount spent by Larry.
