You are hiking on a trail that leads to the top of a mountain. At 12 P. M. you reach an elevation of 3700 feet. At 4 P. M. you reach an elevation of 4500 feet. What is your mean hourly change in elevation?

    Average rate = (change in height) / (change in time)

    r = (4500-3700) / (4+12-12)

    r=800/4

    r=200 ft/hr

    200 feet per hour.
