    Let the opposite side = 12

    Let the adjacent side = 16

    Let the hypotenuse side = 20

    Using the pythagoras theorem

    we are going to prove that hypotenus is 20

    opp² + adj² ⁼ hyp²

    12² + 16² ⁼ hyp²

    144 + 256 = hyp²

    400 = hyp²

    √400 = hyp

    20 = hyp

    Therefore hypotenuse = 20
