    First, distribute the 1/2: 1/2 (n + 2) = 8 = > n/2 + 1 = 8

    Then subtract 1 from each side: n/2 + 1 = 8 = > n/2 = 7

    Now, multiply 2 to each side: n/2 = 7 = > n = 14

    We know now that n is equal to 14.

    You have to distribute the 1/2 to the parenthesis.

    1/2*n and 1/2*2

    Now you have the equation 1/2n+1=8.

    Now get the n by itself.

    Since the 1 is positive, to move it across the = sign you have to make it a negative

    1/2n+1=8 = > 1/2=8-1

    Subtract the 8 and 1 to get 7 = >1/2n=7

    Now, since the 1/2 is multipying to the n, you must divide it across the = sign 1/2n=7

    => n = 7 / 1/2

    Divide the 7 by 1/2 to get 3.5 = > n=3.5
