Using substitution 3x-5y=11 and x-3y=1

    3x - 5y = 11 ⇒ 3x - 5y = 11

    1x - 3y = 1 ⇒ 3x - 9y = 3

    4y = 8

    4 4

    y = 2

    3x - 5 (2) = 11

    3x - 10 = 11

    +10 + 10

    3x = 21

    3 3

    x = 7

    (x, y) = (7, 2)
