Llene is making smoothies. The recipe calls for 1 1/4 cups of strawberries, How many cups of strawberries, written as a fraction greater than one, are used in the recipe?

    I think you're asking to rewrite this as an improper fraction (which are actually more useful than a mixed number in higher level classes).

    Multiply the denominator by the number in front of the fraction. 4 x 1 = 4.

    Then add it to the numberator.

    4 + 1 = 5.

    So its 5/4
