How do I write an explicit formula for this sequence? 2, 6, 18, 54, 162, ... I already know the common difference is x3.

    If the common difference is 3 all you need to do is:

    an=a1 - d (n-1)

    2 - 3d + 3

    Explicit rule = - 3n + 5
