1. The day after surgery, 5 subjects get physical therapy 3 times a day for a week. Another 5 subjects do not get physical therapy. The data are the number of days between the day of the surgery and the day on which the subject returns to work. Treatment group: 12, 11, 14, 12, 12 Nontreatment Group: 15, 14, 17, 18, 17 (a) What is the mean for each group? What is the difference in the means? (b) Randomly pick any 5 values from a mixture of both groups. Find the mean of each group and the difference. Repeat this process 4 times. (c) Based on your differences of the means from being randomly picked, is the difference in means of the treatment group and nontreatment group significant? What does it mean?

    A) treatment group mean = 12.2; non-treatment group mean = 16.2

    mean difference 4

    b) trial 1 mean 14, difference 1.8 above & 2.2 below

    trial 2 mean 14.8, difference 2.6 above & 1.4 below

    trial 3 mean 14.2, difference 2 above & 2 below

    trial 4 mean 14.8, difference 2.6 above & 1.4 below

    c) There is not a significant difference in the number of days between surgery and returning to work with the trial data that was chosen.

    Them number of days were close together. The range was less than 3 days difference.
