What is the estimated perimeter of an ellipse if the major axis has a length of 15 ft and the minor axis has a length of 7.5 ft? round your answer to the nearest tenth.

    Length of the major axis (a) = 15 ft

    Length of the minor axis (b) = 7.5 ft

    Value of pi = 3.14

    Then

    Perimeter = 2pi * square root[ (a^2 + b^2) / 2]

    = 2 * 3.14 * square root[ (15^2 + 7.5^2) / 2]

    = 6.28 square root [ (225 + 56.25) / 2]

    = 6.28 square root (281.25/2)

    = 6.28 square root (140.625)

    = 6.28 * 11.86

    = 74.48

    = 74.5 ft
