    50 - 10n - 1 = 29

    - 10n + 50 - 1 = 29

    - 10n + 49 = 29

    - 10n = 29 - 49

    -10 n = - 20

    n = - 20/-10

    n = 2

    10 (5-n) - 1=29

    Mutiply the bracket by 10

    (10) (5) (10) (-n) - 1 = 29

    50-10n-1 = 29

    50-1-10n = 29

    49-10n = 29

    move + 49 to the other side

    sign changes from + 49 to - 49

    49-49-10n = 29-49

    -10n = - 20

    divide by - 10

    -10n/-10 = - 20/-10

    n = 2

    Check answer by using the substitution method

    10 (5-n) - 1 = 29

    10 (5-2) - 1 = 29

    Do 5-2 = 3

    10*3=30

    30-1 = 29

    Answer : n = 2
