Over the past ten years, the town's population doubled in size. the population is currently 12,000. what was the population ten years ago?

    The population ten years ago was 6,000.

    Because the population doubled you divide 12,000 by 2

    12,000 / 2 = 6,000

    Over the past 10 years it has doubled in size ... so ten years ago it was half the size it is now. it is now 12,000 ... so 10 yrs ago it would have been 6,000
