The perimeter of a shape is simply the sum of all of the sides of the figure. So if a square had a length of 5 units, the perimeter would be 20 as 4+4+4+4=20.

Calculating the area and the perimeter. The perimeter is the length of the outline of a shape. To find the perimeter of the rectangle or square you have to add the lengths of all the 4 sides. x is in this case the length of the rectangle while y is the width of the rectangle
