7/12 is left to plant sunflowers

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Let's add

    1/6 + 3/12

Our denominators don't match, so we can't add yet.

Since 6 is evenly divided by 12, we can multiply just one term to get a common denominator.

Multiply 1 by 2, and get 2, then we multiply 6 by 2 and get 12.

Add to get the amount of garden used.

    2/6+3/12 = 5/12

Now subtract 12/12 (the whole garden) from 5/12 to get remainder of garden

    Answer is: 7/12
