Simplifying the Complex Fraction

Method 1 : LCD Multiplication
The LCD for 3 and 3 is 3
Multiply top and bottom by the LCD 3 * 23 3 * 13 = 21 3 * 23 3 * 13 = 21
convert to mixed numbers and
reduce fractions where possible
=2 = 2
Method 2 : Fraction Division
Divide the top fraction by the bottom
(multiply top by reciprocal of bottom)
23 : 13 23 : 13 = 23 * 31 = 23 * 31 = 63 = 63
convert to mixed numbers and
reduce fractions where possible
= 63 = 21 = 2
