    Let the shorter side be x.

    "one side of the triangle is 11 more than the shorter side" is x + 11

    "and the longer side is 25 more than the shorter side" is x + 25

    x + x + 11 + x + 25 = 117

    3x + 36 = 117

    3x = 81

    x = 27

    x + 11 = 38

    x + 25 = 52

    Answer: The sides have lengths 27 in., 38 in., and 52 in.
