Two children share out 96 sweets into piles in the ratio 5:7 calculate how many sweets are in the small pile.

    We need to add the two sides of the ratio to get 12 and then divide 96 by 12

    96/12=8

    So the ratio will be 5*8:7*8 = 40:56

    Therefore the number of sweets in the small pile is 40
