The question is At the pet fair, there were42 dogs and 35 cats. The pets must be split into small groups so that there are the same number of dogs in each group and the same number of cats in each group. What is the greastest number of groups that can be made so that each animal is in a group? Explain how you determined your answer.

    42=2*3*7

    35=5*7

    their GCF is 7, so the cats and dogs must be split into 7 groups

    42/7=6, and 35/7=5, so there are 6 dogs and 5 cats in each group.
