    The direct variation equation is : y = 5x

    where y is the total number of raviolis made in x hours with 5 as the constant ratio or constant of variation.

    Direct variation happens when two variable quantities have a constant or unchanged ratio, and one variable varies directly on the other.

    For example: number of raviolis made in 5 hrs, 10 hrs.

    y = 5x

    y = 5 (5hrs) y = 5 (10hrs)

    y = 25 raviolis in 5 hrs. y = 50 raviolis in 10 hrs.

    When you divide the total number of raviolis made by the total number of hours spent in making the raviolis, you will get the constant ratio or constant of variation.

    For example: 25 raviolis in 5 hrs; 25 / 5 = 5 raviolis per hour

    50 raviolis in 10 hrs; 50/10 = 5 raviolis per hour.

    as you can see, 5 is always constant regardless of the total number of raviolis made and the number of hours spent in making the raviolis.
