Find the value of d that makes the equation true:

d - 8 = 5.

    To answer this, you need to get "d" on one side by itself. To do this, add 8 to both sides of the equation.

    d - 8 + 8 = 5 + 8

    -8 and + 8 cancel out leaving:

    d = 13
