An artist mixes paint to make new colors.

She uses

1/3 cup of red paint

1/3 cup of yellow paint to make a batch of orange paint.

If the artist has 2 cups of red paint available and 3 cups of yellow paint available, how many batches of orange paint can she make?

    1/3 + 1/3 = 2/3 of a cup

    2/3 of a cup is 1 batch

    2 + 3 = 5

    5 : 2/3 = 7 1/2

    Answer: The artist would be able to make 7 1/2 batches of paint.
