7x-4 and 6x-4-x are not equivalent expressions, when you combine 6x and - x it becomes 5x not 7x so the expressions are not equivalent. On the interactive tool, you can combine the like terms to simplify the expression, this will give you the simplest form. From this you can change around the numbers, but they must keep their signs, to find more equivalent expressions. Then you find the zero pairs and simplify the expression. The simplest forms one of the many equivalent expressions.
