A pet store has a total of 45 cats and dogs. There are 9 more cats than dogs. Find the number of cats and dogs in the store.

    A) c + d = 45

    B) c = d + 9

    rewriting B

    B) c - d = 9

    adding A and B

    2 c = 54

    cats = 27

    dogs = 18
