Step-by-step explanation:
x-y=-5
1) Subtract x from both sides:
-y=-x-5
2) Divide everything by - 1:
y=x+5

There is an implied (-1) Before every negative number. In step 2, I simply divided both sides by the - 1 to get y positive.
