    So (f-g) (x) basically is a fancier way of saying f (x) - g (x).

    f (x) - g (x) = (4x²-3) - (x+1) (distribute the negative sign)

    = 4x² - 3 - x - 1 (add like terms)

    = 4x² - x - 4 (answer)
