    Subsitute - 8 for y so

    -8=-2x-12

    add 12 to both sides

    12-8=-2x+12-12

    4=-2x+0

    4=-2x

    divide both sdie sby 2

    So,

    Substitute - 8 for y

    -8 = - 2x - 12

    Add 12 to both sides

    4 = - 2x

    Divide both sides by - 2

    -2 = x
