A car rental company charges $39 per day plus 30¢ per mile. A second company charges $45 per day and 25¢ per mile. Write and solve an equation to determine the number of miles for which the cost of renting a car for one day would be the same for both companies.

    $39 +.3m = $45 +.25m

    subtract 39 from each side

    .3m = $6 +.25m

    subtract. 25m from both sides

    .05m = $6

    divide both sides by. 05

    m = 120
