How can you substitute for 5y-8=x

3y-4=x

    I think you have to solve for the first variable in one of the equations, then substitute the result into the other equation.

    Since they r both equal to x, set them equal to each other

    5y - 8 = 3y - 4

    ur basically subbing in one x for the other.
