In a school 3/5 pupils are boys and there were 240 girls. How many boys were in the school? How many children were in total?

    Let the total children be x.

    according to question,

    2/5 of x = 240

    thus, 2/5 * x = 240

    2x = 1200

    thus, x = 600.

    Thus, no. of boys = 600 - 240 = 360

    thus, total children = 360 + 240 = 600

    If 2/5 is 240 then 1/5 is 120 ... multiply 120 by 5 which is 600 so ...

    600=total

    Then ... multiply 120 by 3 which will give the 3/5 boys which is 360 so ...
