Tom distributed chocolates among his friends Alex and kevin in the ratio 2:1. If he had 12 chocolates, how many did Kevin get?

    So he has, in total, 12 chocolates. He's going to distribute them in a 2 to 1 ratio to his friends, meaning that one will get 2x number of chocolate and the other will get 1x. Of course, since 1x + 1x = 2x, that means one will get twice as many chocolates as the other one. If Alex is getting 2x, then Kevin is getting 1x chocolates.

    In total, Tom has 3x number of chocolates (1x+2x), and if 3x=12, then x=12/3, or x=4. So if Kevin is getting 1x number of chocolates, he will get 4 chocolates, while Alex will get 8 (2*x=2*4=8)
