First we have to find how much string we are going to cut into 5 pieces. We do this by taking 1/5 of 7/8 meter.

    1/5 * 7/8 = 7/40

Now we have to subtract this from the original amount ...

    7/8 - 7/40 =

    35/40 - 7/40 =

    28/40 = 14/20 = 7/10

Now we divide this remaining string by 5 to find the length of the individual pieces ...

    7/10 : 5 =

    7/10 * 1/5 =

    7/50 meter
