Whatever you do on one side you do on the other for example in your question you need to divide (do the opposite of multiplying) on both sides and since both are 2, 2 divided by 8 is 4 so
4 is the answer
For the second one you need to divide both 3 and 2 by twelve that will give you 4 for x and 6 for y
