Sarah cut off 1/8 of a 48-inch piece of ribbon. Jane cut off 1/9 of a 36-inch piece of ribbon. Whose piece is longer? How much longer?

    Sarah - if she cut off 1/8 of a 48-inch piece of ribbon you would have to do 48/8=6 so then you do 48-6=42 so sarah has 42-inches of ribbon left.

    jane - if she cut off 1/9 of a 36-inch piece of ribbon you would have to do 36/9=4 so then do 36-4=32

    that means that sarah has more ribbon

    sarah has 10 more inches or ribbon thane jane
