    You can do this piece by piece. Start with the first terms in both expressions.

    5d^2 - 2d^2 When two terms have the same variable (in this case d^2), you can act like the variable isn't there. So, treat this like 5 - 2 and then add the variable back on.

    3d^2

    Now, do the same for the other terms with matching variables. (4d - 3d) and (-3 + 4).

    3d^2 + d + 1
