    X=number of wood bats sold

    y=number of metal bats sold

    Set up a system of equations

    x+y=23

    24x+30y=606

    y=23-x

    Solve by substitution:

    24x+30 (23-x) = 606

    24x+690-30x=606

    690-6x=606

    -6x=-84

    6x=84

    x=14

    Plug in 14 for x to find y:

    14+y=23

    y=9

    So, the save lot sold 14 wood bats and 9 metal bats.

    Check:

    14+9=23 true

    24x+30y=606

    24 (14) + 30 (9)

    336+270=606

    606=606 true
