    7 bags red onions

    10 bags yellow onions

    Step-by-step explanation:

    If r is the number of bags of red onions, and y is the number of bags of yellow onions, then:

    r + y = 17

    4r + 6y = 88

    Solve the system of equations using substitution or elimination. Using substitution:

    r = 17 - y

    4 (17 - y) + 6y = 88

    68 - 4y + 6y = 88

    2y = 20

    y = 10

    r = 7
