    You would need to multiply the bottom equation by - 2.5 (negative 2.5)

    6x+5y=2

    4x+2y=8

    Multiply the bottom equation by - 2.5:

    -10x - 5y = - 20

    Now you can add the top equation to the new equation and it eliminates the Y variable:

    6x + 5y = 2 +

    -10x - 5y = - 20

    Becomes:

    -4x = - 18

    To find x, divide both sides by - 4:

    x = - 18 / - 4

    x = 4.5
