The high school track coach used the observational study to determine how fast his runners can run 1 mile. There are two things required of an observational study. The variables (time to run 1 mile) must be observed and the data must be collected through observation which the coach did. He did not add any extra information or guesses. All of the information and the average 6 minutes he got is an evidence of his observation.
