    Eliminate parentheses.

    3k - 6 - 6 = 4k - 3k + 1

    Collect terms.

    3k - 12 = k + 1

    Add 12, subtract k

    3k = k + 13

    2k = 13

    Divide by the coefficient of k

    k = 13/2 = 6.5
