    Add the numbers 7 + 10

    17 - 7j = - 10 - 4j

    subtract 17 from both sides

    -7j = - 27 - 4j

    add 4j to both sides

    -3j = - 27

    divide both sides by - 3

    j = 9

    First start with subtracting ten on each side and subtracting 7 on each side, then add 4j to the - 7j to get 3j/3 = - 27/3 which equals j=9; answer is j=9
