    f (x) = 2x + 1

    To find the inverse, f^-1 (x), of the function:

    Put the function as an equation:

    y = 2x + 1

    Then move x to the left and y to the right;

    x = 2y + 1

    Then solve for y;

    y = x/2 - 1/2

    f^-1 (x) = y

    f^-1 (x) = x/2 - 1/2
